Background Information

The Kora National Park was gazetted in 1973 as a reserve and and changed into a national as a park in 1990. It comprises of an area of a little over 1700 km2.This triangle of dense woodland and scrub borders the Tana River, and rises rises in the highlands between Aberdares and Mount Kenya, and also stretches upto to the Indian Ocean.

The land slopes gently from an altitude of 490m in the south-west and about 270m in the north-east. The park has several seasonal rivers.


Located in the Coast region, Tana District and covers 1,787 km2.


Kora is 281 km to the north-east of Nairobi. Access is via Thika . A bridge across the Tana River joins the park with Meru National Park. The park has a road network.
