The Ark
The Ark has got four viewing areas from which to observe the ever-present animal activity at the waterhole and saltlick. There is a ground level hide – the perfect spot for the discerning photographer. From this viewpoint, photos of animals can be taken at eye-level.
For you not to miss any animal sightings, the resident guide will buzz your room when special animals come to the waterhole. Simply, just throw on your provided robe and slippers, grab your camera and view nightlife at the waterhole!
The sister property to The Ark the Aberdare Country Club, is a short distance away and it is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Activities include a game walk on our 1300 acres, golf, tennis, horseback riding, relaxing at our health club, taking a dip in the swimming pool, or simply enjoying the gorgeous gardens.
Accommodation
All “cabins” have an en-suite shower and bathroom. Accommodation at The Ark is in the form of cabins that are self-contained with a shower and toilet. The rooms are on three levels – Deck A, B and C.
Deck C is the main deck where all the main lodge facilities are located, including bar, cloakrooms and restaurant, there is also access for wheel chairs, for those who may require it.
From the safety and comfort of all the four decks, one can also watch the wild animals visiting the water hole in front of The Ark.

With altitudes ranging from 7,000 feet to 14,000 feet above sea level, the Aberdare National Park is situated 260 kilometers (162 miles) from Nairobi. Since the 1950’s, Aberdare National Park has been a major attraction and continues to be a favorite destination of travelers who love the outdoors and wildlife.

ABERDARE COUNTRY CLUB
Aberdare Range,300 square miles was officially made into a National Park and is one of Kenya’s major watersheds, supplying Nairobi’s water. It is also a water catchment area as it is an undestroyed virgin forest and most of the rivers in Kenya start from the Aberdare National Park. It is the source of water that services the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
It is built within it’s own 1300 acre wildlife sanctuary on the slopes of Kamatongu Hill in Mweiga, Nyeri, the Aberdare Country Club is an ideal getaway destination in a beautiful setting. Our staff is very hospitable and will do all they can to make your stay memorable.
The sanctuary abounds with Zebra, Giraffe, Impala, Warthog, Duikers and the more elusive Leopard. It is a home to very many species of East African birds.
All rooms are Cottages and have spectacular views to the North, overlooking the Solio Game Sanctuary which is a home of the black and white rhinos.
The Aberdare Mountains to the west and Mount Kenya to the East provide a stunning backdrop to the beautiful Aberdare Country Club grounds.
Aberdare Country Club again serves as a check in point for its sister establishment, The Ark.
Accommodation
All the rooms at Aberdare Country Club are in the form of cottages and one standard suite. The cottages are as follows:

From the above cottages, the under listed are suitable for families, honeymooners and those wanting something extra.
–The Nursery Cottage, Kinangop Cottage, Honey Suckle, 2 Deluxe Rooms, VIP Suite
Our two deluxe rooms are set within the Nursery and Kinangop cottages with their own doors and do not interconnect to any other room. This makes them suitable for the individuals as well as families.
ACTIVITIES
Nature Walks
This takes place within the Aberdare Country Club Game Sanctuary, which has an area of over 1300 acres, full of flora and fauna, wildlife and birds. Drives can also be arranged for those who need assistance walking, upon request.
Golf
This is a 9-hole Golf Course within the Game Sanctuary. Guests are allowed to bring their own clubs or hire them from the Club.The unique and wonderful thing about the golf course at the Club is that you can tee off among the wildlife that wonder on the course to forage for food. Priceless!
Bird Watching
Guests can search for birds and walk within the Game Sanctuary but we also offer a drive as an exception to the elderly, of for those requiring assistance. Let our guides inform you about the plethora of birds you can sight. The most conspicuous group is the Sunbird, with seven species that include: Golden-winged Sunbird, Tacazze Sunbird, Double collared Sunbird, the emerald-green Malachite Sunbird and the tiny.
