Karen Blixen Group

Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, a luxury boutique hotel in the leafy suburb of Karen, Nairobi, offers an immersive experience into the history of the renowned author of *Out of Africa*. This charming destination is the ideal starting or finishing point for an African safari. The centerpiece of the hotel is the Historic Swedo House, a former hunting lodge and farmhouse built between 1906 and 1908. It serves as the reception area and adds to the rich legacy of the property. Located just half a mile from the Karen Blixen Museum (the iconic Bogani House featured in the film *Out of Africa*), the hotel offers guests a unique connection to Blixen’s life and work.

The luxurious hotel cottages, constructed in 2001, are adjacent to the Karen Golf and Country Club, offering guests access to golf, tennis, squash, and other leisure activities. Karen’s vibrant suburb also provides convenient access to shops, restaurants, and financial services. Set on five acres of land, the Coffee Garden boasts century-old trees, lush gardens, a swimming pool, and an array of blooming flowers and birds. The historic Grogan/MacMillan Manor House, relocated brick by brick in 2008, adds another layer of history and serves as a venue for special dining occasions.
